Head Start

Head Start

Since 1965, Head Start has been providing low income children and families the supports they need for a better future.

Head Start's approach includes:

  • a fundamental belief that all children can succeed
  • a commitment to provide a nurturing environment that supports the healthy growth and development of each child in the context of the child's family, culture, and community
  • relating to parents as partners who share in decision-making and actively participate in policy groups that support the whole family
  • meeting the needs of children with special challenges
  • strengthening linkages within communities

The Head Start program provides:

  • activities that help preschoolers grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically.
  • free health screening, vision, and hearing; mental health services
  • healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe setting.
  • support and resources for problems that affect the entire family
